Cotton is one of the oldest and most popular textiles, and new technologies are making it easier to be recycled into one of the most sustainable materials available. It can be broken down either chemically, resulting  in a viscose-like fabric, or mechanically, where it is ground up and respun and woven/knitted. It is often made from pre consumer materials, like the scraps of other garments that would ordinarily go straight to a landfill, but it can also be made from post consumer textiles that have reached the end of their lifecycle.
